This area of women’s health - the pregnant and postpartum body - is, at least in the fitness world, not well understood at all. There’s more to it than “do what you’ve always done and listen to your body”. Telling women this, and only this, does them a disservice.
Increasingly women are choosing to prioritise fitness during pregnancy, which is fantastic given the myriad of benefits for both Mother and baby! But it is so important that a 'fit Mama' is also a 'smart Mama’. And we can’t make smart choices unless we have the necessary information about what is going on with our bodies.
It is why this guide first and foremost gives you information and insight. We are much more likely to make sensible, safe choices about how to exercise (and stick to them), if we understand the WHY of what we’re doing. Or occasionally, the why not.
